Southern Catalpa (Catalpa bignonioides)
Catalpas are another multi faceted tree species that everyone needs a few of. They are famous for the free fish bait they can host, known as catalpa sphinx moth larvae, and for their showy flower display. One “catawba worm,” fresh or frozen can catch several fish due to their tough skin, but there will be no need to skimp on the bait cause there will be plenty to use. Any leftovers will be gladly eaten up by critters like turkeys who happen by your bait orchard. Erosion issues? Catalpas have very vigorous root systems that quickly take charge and hold a site in place. Acid or alkaline, moist or dry, hot or cold, catalpa can handle it.

My first experience with Nativ Nurseries was positive overall. There were a couple small issues that more than likely was oversight on my account. First, I only wanted 4 trees. My selection was $5.99 each, totaling $23.96. When I went to checkout I was notified there was a $24 minimum order. Maybe I overlooked it but I saw no mention prior to checkout. Second, during checkout there was a calendar pop-up asking what day I wanted the trees to ship. The next day was not an option but the day after that was, so i selected the first available day. The confirmation e-mail I received said the trees would ship the day following order placement unless a different day was selected. This led me to believe I could not have selected the day I did and the trees would have shipped a day sooner, however, I didn’t see an option to bypass the ship day calendar during checkout. Again, maybe I overlooked it. Other than that the transaction went smoothly. The trees shipped the day I selected and were delivered the following day. The trees were packaged nice and secure to ensure no damage during transit. Also, they were fresh and healthy when received. Also in the box was instructions on how to plant or maintain the trees if not able to plant immediately and also a certificate showing where the nursery itself passed Dept. of Agriculture inspection. Overall, I’m highly satisfied with my first experience. Thanks!
